Casa Saba Trieste is located on the first floor of a historic 20th century building, in the central Via San Nicolò (Borgo Teresiano) in front of the Umberto Saba antiquarian bookshop, in a pedestrian area full of shops and clubs.
The accommodation with terrace, renovated in 2024, pays homage to the figure of the poet, bringing together suggestions from the Trieste writer who most represented the city.
You will find very particular objects, including an Olivetti Studio typewriter identical to the one he used.
The furnishings are the result of expert research between colours, shapes and materials from the 1920/1930 era and modern and functional elements.
The choice to give new life to the vintage solid oak parquet and to insert new details
with ancient woods of the same essence worked by hand, it embellished the final result.
The walls were completely decorated with lime putty, a natural element used to embellish interiors forever, with colors dating back to the early 1900s.
The entrance of Casa Saba will welcome you with a completely restored period coat rack where you can leave your things and shoes and wear the set of slippers that we provide.
In the spacious 22 meter living room you will find a large sofa that converts into a double bed with standard measurements and a comfortable mattress with topper, the kitchen complete with dishwasher, Illy coffee machine, fridge, kettle, toaster and everything you need for cooking and eating in the most absolute comfort on the table with Parisian chairs. A television with free streaming platforms is available for your relaxation at Casa Saba.
The nook.
A welcome surprise, a corner dedicated to the figure of the writer and poet Umberto Saba. We have collected objects dating back to the beginning of the 1900s which well represent the work and life of the Trieste poet. A desk from the time on which lies the same model of typewriter used by Saba and given to him by Olivetti himself. An inkwell, some pens, the pipes he loved to smoke, original manuscripts, photos representing the areas of Trieste dear to him and obviously various texts by the poet and concerning the city, which you can easily read in the tranquility of Casa Saba.
Bedroom,
which is accessed through a large double English door, is characterized by the hand-crafted metal headboard from the early 1900s above which you can admire the oil painting depicting the stamp minted for the centenary of the birth of Umberto Saba.
Under the large window, which overlooks the terrace, there is a large oak bench where you can sit and read a book. The space is completed by a large 6-door wardrobe and safe.
The terrace, adorned with evergreen plants and equipped with table and chairs, will allow you to have breakfast outdoors in good weather and enjoy your holiday with a good glass of wine and an equally good book.
The bathroom will welcome you with the beautiful solid oak top, on which rests a beautiful marble sink, a large restored period frame with mirror, a comfortable shower, toilet, bidet and towel warmer. We provide our guests with sets of towels, toiletries, hairdryer, shower gel and hair conditioner.
